DIY Pizza Pockets

Like most folks, I ogle the beautiful pins on Pinterest.  Knowing damn good and well that when I attempt whatever cutesy do-dad I pin, it will not turn out cutesy.  So I ran across a pin for pizza monkey bread and I said, "Ooo! That looks pretty easy.  I could totally do that!"  I clicked it.

Do you know what happened?  Nothing.  It just linked to the photo.  No recipe.  No instructions.  This was a pain in the ass.  I could have just searched for the recipe, but I made the executive decision to wing it instead.  Instead of monkey bread (because I couldn't make it look right in the bundt pan), mine morphed into pizza pockets.

And here is how I made them...

What You Need:

~Canned biscuits in the amount you wish to make
~Pizza toppings of your choice:  pepperoni, black olives, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, cheese, etc.
~Marinara sauce and/or garlic butter for dipping

How to Make 'em:

1.  Separate biscuits.  Take one and roll it out.
2.  Place ingredients inside.  I suggest not using the marinara on the inside.  Every time I've attempted this has ended in an ugly mess that was less than desirable.

3.  Fold biscuit over and pinch the edges together.  Repeat with other biscuits.
4.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.  Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 mins.
5.  Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!

A few of mine split open because I didn't roll them out enough.  No worries, they still tasted great!

DIY Pinterest Style

I am the world's worst decorator.  I see things in magazines or online, but can't seem to recreate it.  The walls in my living room are fairly bare and contain only a collage frame of 4x6 photos from 7 or 8 years ago, an antique mirror that has seen better days, and a large framed drawing that my mother drew when she was pregnant with me.  So what's a wayward decorator to do?  Pinterest!

We've all seen the embroidery hoop projects.  In fact, I think it was one of my very first pins. I loved them for their simplicity, colorfulness, ease of change.

So I bought some hoops, more fabric than I needed, and a can of paint.  I waited for what seemed like months to have a day that was warm enough to paint.  I took the inside hoop out of all the hoops and just painted the outside hoops plus the chipboard letter.  Mostly though I painted my fingers.

These hoops are so easy to make.  The hardest part is trimming the fabric around the edges.  I warmed up my hot glue gun and glued the letter to one of the bigger hoops.  That wasn't nearly as easy as you think it would be.  Hot glue doesn't stay hot very long.

I thought seven would be enough, but I need more hoops!  Also my friend, Cam, mentioned that a nice thrifted photo frame (one of those scrolly kind) would be great to go with them.  So now I'm waiting for the next semi-warm day to head out and go on a thrift and find mission.

A word of caution about Command adhesive.  We live in an anomaly of a home.  When we first moved in we thought the walls were made of plaster, but as it turns out, no.  It's concrete.  No seriously.  Concrete.  Which I guess is a good thing because we live in a tornado high traffic area.  Not such a good thing when you want to hang photos or other things on your walls.  You have to get a drill, drill bit, anchors, anchor screws, blah, blah, blah.  I opted to use these adhesive tabs that are touted as being easy to put up and remove.  I put this particular one up about two inches below where I had intended to so since I had extra tabs I decided to remove it.  Oops.  Took some wall with it.  Either I was too eager to remove it or it's not as handy dandy to remove as they say.

In any case, I love the way they turned out and they make at least one wall of my living room look good!  I made pillow covers too!

This Week's Pinteresting Finds

First off, I did a little redecorating around here.  I got from one extreme to the other around here when it comes to being simple or really colorful.  For now, I'm digging it.

These little do-dads never fail to crack me up.

Pinterest FAIL!

I'm sure if you've been on Pinterest for any amount of time you've seen fingernails painted all kind of cute by using scotch tape to decorate.  I decided to give it a whirl.

Uh.... no.  I waited 30 minutes before using the tape.  Apparently I should have waited longer.

Pinteresting Finds {Camper Edition}

I'm sure my Pops isn't big on turquoise or pastel colors.  I can't help it though.  I can not stop searching for camper remodels.  Pinterest is killing me.

Is this not the cutest?!  Image from here.
Probably a little to "fru-fru" for my Dad, but minus the curtains and it's kind of cute.  Image from here.
I love this!  So bright, but... almost too white and the pastels would never work for a dude.  Image from here.
I like the curtains in this one.  Not really the colors though... Image from here.
These appliances are perfectly vintage.  Image from this pin.
This is more his style.  Earthy tones.  Image found here.
Whatever he decides to do with this camper, I'm excited to help him do.  I think it's going to be great having him around.  We've already made so many plans!  The kids are going to have so much fun helping their Pop with a garden.  Come on May!!

Winning by Pinning {Thanksgiving Edition}

Lord knows I have to set myself a timer BEFORE I navigate my browser in the direction of Pinterest.  I could spend an entire day (or month) on that site.  It's like a never-ending love affair with all things interesting and, for me the most bestest of things... distracting!  Since this week here in the US is the wondrously indulgent holiday of Thanksgiving, I decided to do a little search on da Pinterest.  Which brought up a gazillion and one recipes for all things turkey, pumpkin, and green bean.  And that reminded me that I haven't done a post about food.. in  a very long, long, time.  Oops.  I guess I better get on that. Until then though... let's check out some yummy looking Thanksgiving-esque food. EDITED: Added a recipe yesterday!

pumpkin praline trifle found here

pumpkin fudge found here

classic libby's pumpkin roll found here

apple cidercar found here

pumpkin pie cinnamon buns with caramel cream cheese frosting found here

Uhh... looking back on this post maybe I should have called this the "Pumpkin Edition".  Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Winning by Pinning

I haven't seen my husband in a couple of days.  Mainly because his face has been glued to his new iPhone.  If I'm being honest here, mine has been too.  We love these things!  I've even discovered how I to create ringtones so I can use music we already own.  I don't want to have to pay for tones I already have.

With all this being said...  I have been neglecting my poor weetle 'puter too!  And all the blogs that I normally follow like the best stalker ever.  I'm finally getting around to posting my Wednesday post today.  Eventually some time today I'm going to have to go through my photos for this week's Shades of Autumn photo challenge.  I haven't even taken the memory card out of my camera yet!

I think I need an intervention already!

Ain't this true y'all? =)

I had this EXACT pair of L.A. Gear sneakers!

I saw this last week on The Facebook.  That Dos Equis guy is almost as popular a spoof as Chuck Norris.

Ahhh!  here's another one!  I had one of these!  And I'm lovin' this tumblr...

SHARK!!!!  We might need a bigger boat...  =)
*found on Pinterest, but original pin doesn't credit original source*

Ok, ok... I promise this is the last one from this tumblr!  But who didn't have a Trapper Keeper?  I loved mine.  So convenient and I can't for the life of me figure out why my kids schools specifically state that they CAN'T use them.  Why school board, why???
